ROEST Community Roast Metrics and Power Curve Notes

This page collects community-reported roast metrics and observations from ROEST/J-Roast comparisons. Treat these as anecdotal examples from specific coffees and profiles, not general prescriptions.

Reported Roast Metrics

A community member reported the following roast outcomes:

  • Neja Fadil: 12.56% weight loss, roast meter 115, dropped at FC+40. source
  • Ibonia Washing Station AB: 13.05% weight loss, roast meter 106, dropped at approximately FC+46s. The user noted they had not marked first crack and had to estimate it. source
  • Ibonia Washing Station AB: 12.92% weight loss, roast meter 108, dropped at FC+35. source

J-Roast Power Curve Comparison Notes

In one J-Roast comparison, the user described the compare roast as a natural coffee with declining power and the main chart as Finca Naranja. They noted that the same profile produced very different power curves. source

For a more similar comparison, the same user said the primary roast was Basha Utute and the compare roast was Basha Bekele. They observed that the “good” power chart appeared to ramp power faster and then decline, while the other chart ramped more slowly and stayed steady or increased slightly. source

Interpretation Caution

These examples suggest that matching a profile does not necessarily guarantee matching power behavior across coffees or comparisons. Differences in coffee, processing, moisture, batch behavior, and control response may affect the resulting power curve. The observations above should be used as reference examples rather than proof of a universal rule. source
